Scientist 'C' on Direct Recruitment Basis - Department of Biotechnology

General Instructions for candidates

  1. Eligibility conditions:
    1. Educational Qualification (Essential): Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in any discipline of Life Sciences or Biotechnology or Biochemistry or Computational or Pharmaceutical or Agricultural or Veterinary Sciences or related disciplines; or Ph.D. in Engineering or Technology - Chemical or Biomedical or Biotechnology or Biopharma; or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in any branch of medicine from a recognized university or institute.
    2. Age Limit: The upper age limit for direct recruits shall be 35 years. The date for determining the age-limit shall be the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates. Any age relaxation in age limit shall be in accordance with orders issued by the Central Government from time to time.
    3. Nationality: The applicant must be a citizen of India.

  2. Documents required:
    Before filling the application form, candidates should keep following documents ready for upload:
    1. Scanned passport size colour photograph in .JPG, .JPEG or .PNG format with size between 20 kb to 100 kb.
    2. Scanned signature in .JPG, .JPEG or .PNG format with size between 10 kb to 40 kb.
    3. Self-attested scanned copy of date of birth proof in .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF format with size between 60 kb to 5 mb.
    4. Self-attested scanned copy of educational qualifications degree/marksheet(s)/certificate(s) merged into one file if more than one in .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF format with size between 60 kb to 5 mb.
    5. Self-attested scanned copy of work experience certificate(s), if applicable, merged into one file if more than one in .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF format with size between 60 kb to 5 mb.
    6. Self-attested scanned copy of category certificate, if applicable, in .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF format with size between 60 kb to 5 mb.
    7. Self-attested scanned copy of PwD certificate, if applicable, in .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF format with size between 60 kb to 5 mb.
    8. Self-attested scanned copy of "No Objection Certificate (NOC)" if applicable, in .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF format with size between 60 kb to 5 mb.
  3. Application fee:
    Non-refundable and non-transferable application fee is payable online using a Debit/Credit card, UPI/internet banking as below:
    1. Unreserved/OBC/EWS: Rs. 2000
    2. Females/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability/Ex-servicemen: Exempted
  4. Computer-based test:
    1. Candidates would be short-listed through a computer-based test.
    2. Test would be conducted in multiple cities across the country. Applicant can give 3 preferences out of the available list of centers.
    3. Eligibility certificates of only shortlisted/selected candidates would be verified.
    4. Candidates whose applications are found to be complete in all respects will only be eligible to appear for test.
    5. No request for change of date or time of test or test center will be entertained.
    6. No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates for appearing in the test.
  5. Structure of the test (subject to change):
    1. Test Structure:
      • Part A - General Aptitude: 100 Questions (100 Marks)
      • Part B - Scientific: 100 Questions (100 Marks)
      • Total: 200 Questions, 200 Marks, Duration: 120 Minutes
    2. Questions will be objective-type multiple choice and bilingual (English & Hindi).
    3. Negative marking of ½ mark for every wrong answer.
    4. Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for eligible PwD candidates as per rules)
  6. All correspondences related to recruitment will be sent to registered email id only.
  7. Mere completion of application does not guarantee selection. Shortlisting will be based on merit.
  8. Candidates are advised to submit applications well before the closing date.
  9. Category once filled cannot be changed later.
  10. No request for withdrawal of candidature will be entertained.
  11. Candidates must regularly visit www.dbtindia.gov.in for updates.
